Western Hills :: Noteworthy

Pete Rose Drive - Western HillsFolks who live in Western Hills are fiercely loyal to their local high school, Western Hills High, and boast about its many notable graduates: Professional baseball players like Pete Rose, Don Zimmer, Ed Brinkman, Karl Rhodes, Jim Frey, and Ryan Helms, and football players Jack Reynolds and Rodney Heath. The singer Andy Williams is a West High Alum as well. The school was also the location used to film Airborne.

Another establishment of note is Western Bowl, home to the million-dollar Hoinke Classic tournament. Owned by the Hoinke family since 1972, the business was recently sold to new owners who promise to keep the lanes open - much to the relief of local keglers, who had feared that this iconic establishment might close after Erv Hoinke put the property up for sale. The Hoinke Classic will return in 2010.
