Wyoming :: Arts & Play

Wyoming ArtsWyoming has an active arts community. Wyoming Fine Arts is a nonprofit community arts center housed in an historic Masonic building. It offers classes in the fine arts provided by the Midwest Modern Music School, Cincinnati String Academy, The Art Workshop, Musik Kids, Wyoming Dance Center and The Touchstone Violin Project. The Civic Center also provides workshops in the arts on an occasional basis.

Wyoming is also famous for its annual Wyoming Art Show, held on the third Sunday in May, which hosts more than 150 artists, a food court, children's art activities and art competition.

Concerts in Wyoming are generally held during early hours, mostly in the Wyoming Fine Arts Center and The Civic Center, featuring students and community dance and theatre groups. There is also a neighborhood art gallery, geared mostly toward retail collectors, the Frank White Art Gallery and Frame Shop.

Wyoming Recreation cropThe entire historic district of Wyoming is simultaneously like both a park and a museum, offering fun for all ages. Though smaller than 3 square miles, Wyoming offers 10 public parks, three nature preserves and a communal garden that rents plots for $10/year. Wyoming offers a long list of athletic programs for all ages, including tennis, baseball, lacrosse, softball, football, gymnastics, soccer and basketball. There are eight lit and secured tennis courts in the area, as well as a municipal gymnasium, a recreation center and an aquatics center. The Municipal Gymnasium is used for youth and adult basketball and also available for rental. The Wyoming Recreation Center offers a full size gymnasium, fitness center, shower/locker facilities, meeting rooms and child care room, as well as outdoor soccer fields. The Wyoming Family Aquatics Center (which is in operation from May-September) features an eight-lane heated competitive-size pool, play and spray area, vortex swim pool, diving board, water slide, a bathhouse and concessions. The Civic Center is a nexus for an eclectic range of activities, such as Jazzercise, square dancing, ballet and babysitting tips. The Civic Center is also home to the only Candlepin Bowling lanes in the Midwest, as well as the base for the Wyoming Players, the oldest community theatre group in the United States.
